WonderSwan Color
Pre-Release Information
Bandai has officially revealed details of the WonderSwan Color in Japan. The new
handheld will launch in Japan in early December for Yen 6,800 and there will be 5 models available, all in liquid
crystal color. The WonderSwan Color is capable of displaying 241 colors out of a palette of 4096. The machine will
use reflection type FSTN LCD, and screen size has increased from 2.49" to 2.8", and will have a resolution
of 224 x 114 pixels. Here are the specs:
- CPU: 16-bit, 3.072 Mhz, 512K internal RAM, DMA forwarding
- ROM: Flash ROM Max 512 Mbit, EEPROM Max 31 Kbit
- DISPLAY: 2.8" FSTN LCD, 224 x 114 pixels, 241 / 4096 colors
- SOUND: 4 channels Digital Sound
- DIMENSION: 128 x 74.3 x 17.5 mm (width, depth, height)
- WEIGHT: 95 grams
- BATTERY: One AAA battery, 20 hours continuously.
- MEDIA: Cartridge, maximum 512 Mbit
- FEATURES: can be played horizontally and vertically, auto power-off when inactive
- SHELL COLORS: Crystal Orange, Crystal Blue, Crystal Black, Pearl Blue, Pearl Pink
- TARGET MARKET: 16 - 19 years old
- NEW PERIPHERALS: Smart Media Cassettes, USB Connector
Expected Game Titles
Bandai expects to release more than 10 titles for WonderSwan Color by the year end, and 32 game titles by March
2001, over 20 companies are developing for WSC, including Sega Toys, Namco, Hal, Square, Atlas, Bandai Visual,
Banpresto, and Maisya. Below is a chart of the expected release dates.

Expected Gaming Peripherals
Bandai has also announced new peripherals and other accessories for WonderSwan Color, which include the use of:
- Smart Media / Memory Stick / SD Memory - popular multimedia storage devices.
- ROM cartridges for game software, so the cartridges can be re-used and new games
downloaded over the internet using the WonderGate (a mobile phone adapter - see here for more details and pictures).
- USB Connector to allow the WonderSwan Color to exchange data with PlayStation 2,
Personal Computers and Cellular phones. It will also allow you to play cross-platform game titles (WonderSwan &
Cellular Phone for example). Future re-writable cartridges (Smart Media) will include a USB connector at the top.
