Gameplay
Tommy Pickles' new brother, Dil, has disappeared! And it's up to the four babies, to find him! You travel through different places including the Pickles' house, the hospital, a runaway circus train and a hidden temple (what?!) in search of Dil. Okay. That has to be one of the weirdest plots for a game that I've ever heard. But I guess it follows the movie's plot (which I have yet to see because I can't think of an excuse!).
Verdict I'll tell you what - it was worth waiting for this game even though it was late getting released. Now that it's absolutely full color, it looks just like the cartoon! (Which is a good thing.) The main characters are meticulously detailed (Phil and Lil's clothes have even got the yellow duck on them!), and some of those backgrounds look amazing in full color. It's not like Quest for Camelot where it looks like the company was in a rush to colorize the game, and being so lazy as to make the main character three colors. Nope, nearly every character in the game looks fantastic, but some of the baddies just look like ugly blobs though.

As we all know though, games are not all graphics, and this one's gameplay is so straightforward that you could see it from twenty miles away. Walk (there is no run button, sigh) to the goal. That's it. In some cases you must collect a certain amount of objects before you can reach the goal. But the simple gameplay doesn't make the game any easier, however. This is because if you need to collect a certain amount of objects before you can leave, and you get hit by an enemy, you'll have to do it all over again, which can really upset you to say the least.

I don't know if it's just me, but I find that with games based on TV shows or movies, the controls are sticky. Rugrats is no exception, and can get really frustrating at times because of a slight lag between when you press the jump button and when you jump. The button layout is a bit weird too, because the B Button is used for jumping and the A Button isn't used at all! Adding to the fact that there's no way to reconfigure the buttons doesn't help.

The sound and music are not exactly groundbreaking, but like so many other GameBoy Games, they get the job done. The familiar Rugrats theme is in there, as are endless variations of it. There's also the option to turn them off if they get a bit much for you.

But should you buy this game? Get it if you're a huge fan of the Rugrats. If you're after a platformer, there are better ones out there. This is the kind of game that's good for making other people buy a GameBoy Color. Put in this cart, let them play for 15 minutes and say 'See, I told you to get one!'.
