Check it out! Something old...

And something new!

Secrets galore! Again!

Who could forget...

Introduction

Once again, Nintendo brings out a collection of their old handheld games. In this latest edition, at least SIX games are packed into the cart, along with plenty of secrets.

Previous to this, Nintendo has published two other Game and Watch Gallery titles. We've come a long way, because in the first game, you could only select from four titles! There are a lot more to choose from now.

Game Play

Game and Watch Gallery 3 is set out pretty much the same as the other two, but just with a different set of games to play and secrets to collect. Not that this is a bad thing. There a plenty of hidden things for you to discover as you play, but as you know, the higher your score gets, the faster each game will go. And seeing you're aiming for 1000 points on each game, you won't be finishing this game in a hurry!

The game has been designed nicely, with a noteboard that gives you all sorts of information throughout the game. If you find a game very hard, for example, just lose all your lives with a low score and you'll receive a bonus hint!

You also can learn about the history of Game and Watch and see some other titles in the Gallery's museum. There are plenty of museum titles to unlock, but some can only be accessed with the help of the previous two titles.

The music and sounds are okay too. The old versions have just the tick-tick-tick noises getting faster and faster until you panic and lose your lives (!), while the new versions have music, and the tempo of it increases about every 25 points you score. The music and sounds in the new versions are much like the graphics - very Mario-like.

Final Comments

It's difficult for me to not be biased and not give this game a perfect score, because I love it, yet I know other people can't stand it. It's not really original either, as everything except for playing two player via the link cable on one game has all been done before.

It's not that it's a bad game - far from it. It's just that you mightn't like seeing the near carbon copy of a game yet again.

So it's really up to you: did you like the first two Game and Watch Gallerys, or even the original ones? If so, then buy this game. Buy it NOW. If not, or if you want ever changing action, then this game is not for you.
