| | Color GameBoy Colors And Release Dates Announced | | According to Nintendo of Japan, the release date of the Color Game Boy has been decided. It will be on 21 Oct 98 in Japan. It will be released together with Warioland II and a new and improved Tetris DX. Color GameBoy colors for Japan has also been revealed. They will be Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Clear Purple and Clear. The US and Europe, however, will only get the Purple and Clear Purple colors when it is launched in these territories on 23 Nov 98. The Color Game Boy is also said to play Super GameBoy games using the Super GameBoy palette. It will retail at 8900 yen, which is about USD$62. 
| | Color GameBoy Press Release | "The new Color Game Boy units will be similar in size to the existing small Game Boy Pocket units, but will contain new, proprietary technology that displays sharp and vivid color graphics on a new type of color reflective screen for play indoors or out of doors. The new technology will allow the simultaneous display of 56 bright colors out of a palette of 32,000.
The new Color Game Boy technology, while providing a dramatically enhanced portable video game experience, also is designed for future expansion opportunities. One is an ability to be connected with the Nintendo 64 hardware unit.
Color Game Boy also will run the more than 1,000 games designed for it internationally since the system's inception in 1989. Those games will show colors in a range of hues from a 10-palette selection, determined by the player.
"For years, our players have asked us for a Game Boy that could play their favorite games in color. But the technology, and the high demand on battery life, made it impossible,'' says Howard Lincoln, chairman, Nintendo of America.
