Over a year ago, EAGB reported on the existence of a Taiwan made LCD handheld game
machine that was compatible with GameBoy games. Recently, Run Yield Enterprise, the company that distributes this
GameBoy compatible, re-released it with a see-through clear shell. Thanks to Miss. Candy at Run Yield who sent
us a sample copy, we now have have in our grubby little hands the "Fortune Hand Game SY-3000B".

Suffice to say, the SY-3000B, brought to tears to our eyes, mostly because of it's
resemblance to the Classic GameBoy and the memories it brought back of those good old monochrome days.
The SY-3000B is a compatible, and will play any monochrome GameBoy cartridges, as well as those color cartridges
that are monochrome compatible. Dressed in a cool and clear smoke-gray shell, the SY-3000B has steered clear of
mimicking the exact look of Nintendo's original Classic GameBoy, as evident in the differently designed 'Directional
Pad' and 'Select' and 'Start' buttons. We have no idea if Run Yield Enterprise has infringed on any of Nintendo's
patents when it comes to what's inside the compatible, however, although common sense suggest that it would have
been pulled out by now if they did.
Putting the SY-3000B through its paces, we are are glad to announce that the compatible performed flawlessly. The
LCD screen, with its familiar yellow tinge, was exceptionally clear, and the controls were as tight and responsive
as we remembered from our GameBoy Classic days. Sound reproduction was also accurate, and the best part is that,
it was loud. The SY-3000B also has the regular volume and contrast controls, as well as the all important headphone
jack and comm port for link-up games.
We have no figures on the quantities that this compatible has sold, although we can presume that it hasn't sold
very much considering the fact that GameBoy is now in color and that color only games are not backward compatible
with the Classic hardware architecture. On its own merit, the SY-3000B is not something that you'd buy, but for
the GameBoy collector and gadget hunter (like us here at EAGB), it is something that would be on top of our Christmas
list.
